These locations are prone to harmful temperature and humidity fluctuations and are susceptible to flooding, leaky pipes, and leaky roofs. When preserving family photographs it&#8217;s best to store them in a cool, dark place such as a closet in your living space and not in basements or attics. They are usually stored in non-archival, acidic boxes that will harm your photos.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2 &#8211; Quick Inspection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">A quick visual inspection of your family photos often reveals no problems at all. There are also scanner apps you can download for your smart phone.
