The next step would be to show the pictures to relatives and ask for help in identifying people and places in the photos.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chances are that someone in your family can provide you with more information. The date of the photo<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> can be estimated by the ages of the people in it, the style of their clothes, and by knowing when the family lived at the Eddy farmhouse in Mattawan, Michigan.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">The photograph of the man with the horse is a different story, as there is no information written on the front or back of this snapshot. One reason was that in the early days of snapshot photography cameras didn&#8217;t have flashes. You got better results when shooting outside with natural light.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Before air conditioning people spent more time outside on their front porches where it was often cooler than inside. Also, people were often proud of their home and wanted to photograph it, with and without people in the foreground.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">If you can identify the house in the picture it can often lead you to identify the person photographed.
