How can something be both?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">Well, if you&#8217;re a genealogist, artist, collector or museum professional, tape (at least the <strong>WRONG<\/strong> kind of tape) can the bane of your existence! On the flip side of that coin are the <strong>RIGHT<\/strong> kinds of tape, namely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archivalmethods.com\/product\/filmoplast-tapes#nomobile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Filmoplast Tapes<\/a>. Let&#8217;s say it&#8217;s 1956 (or 1966, or 1976), for example, and you&#8217;re the family historian or a collector or something like that. You have a torn document in the family archive, or a rip in a nice old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=currier+and+ives&amp;biw=1495&amp;bih=877&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=isch&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjbxYuK6ObNAhWHx4MKHdmEBecQ_AUIBigB#nomobile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Currier &amp; Ives print<\/a> that you inherited from your grandpa, or a book with it&#8217;s binding falling apart, etc. (see pix above). You&#8217;ve &#8220;fixed it!&#8221; Won&#8217;t future generations be happy about that!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">Yeah, no.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">The truth is, folks, that most \u2013 if not <strong>ALL<\/strong> \u2013 tapes from back in the day are junk. The same can be said of most of the tapes you come across today. This is a repair job for a conservator, see below. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(Please click on the image for a quick tutorial on &#8220;fixing&#8221; this sort of image in Photoshop.)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">So, fast forward 40\/50\/60 years and you&#8217;re now confronted with an important family document, photograph (see above) or an old collectible print and it&#8217;s all messed up with someone else&#8217;s good intentions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">What to do?
